Fishing with Monument Snowboards

April 11, 2013 at 8:51 PM

Monument Snowboards brought their entire pro snowboard team out to Montana the past week for a private resort photo/video shoot. It was everyone's first time to this state. Aside from the snowboarding, they enjoyed a vareity of other outdoor activites, such as hiking, mini golf, shooting guns and even a little fly fishing on a small stream on the West side of the state.

Fortunately, we were able to convince the crew that if they wanted to experience REAL Montana fly fishing, Craig was the place to be. So the guys came up and hopped in the boat with myself and fellow Evolution Fly Fishing guide, Jeff Johnson, for a couple days of guided fishing.

Day 1 was sunny and cold. The fishing was ok, nymphing deeper water. The guys toughed it out though and were rewarded with a few pretty nice fish. Here is Monument pro Colin Wilson with a nice rainbow.

Day 2 was a little better for us. Although we had to fight a little bit of wind in the morning, the temps were much better and cloud cover made the fish really happy. We were rewarded with excellent nymphing all day, and a decent bite on the Skwala in the afternoon.

Erik Ralles, brother of Monument pro Krister Ralles, was along on the trip with photographer and videographer duties. Luckily for him, he was able to set the camera gear aside for a bit and grab a fly rod. I think you could say that he did alright for himself. Check out this toad of a brown trout he landed. I'm pretty sure we'll be seeing Erik out on the Mo again real soon.

Thanks to the Monument Snowboards crew for coming up. It was a great time having you and we look forward to fishing again real soon.

We have been throwing the Skwala for the past 4 days this week. So far, the results have been pretty good. Here is Brian with a nice Mo brown, taken on a Skwala dry.

Welcome to the new Evolution Fly Fishing website.

Winter is in full swing out here in Craig, MT. So I have been keeping busy by sleeping, working on the new site, tying flies and did I mention sleeping? Actually, Evolution Fly Fishing is going international! As I write this, I am preparing to trek up to Calgary to do my first every trade show. So stay tuned for updates from the Great White North.

In other news, Evolution Fly Fishing is again running a spring special for guide trips on the Missouri River. Full Day rates will be $350 per boat, through the end of April. Fishing this time of year is fantastic. Whether you like to streamer fish, nymph or hunt heads, there are plenty of opportunities. Even better, crowds are very few this time of year. I am booking dates now and would be happy to help you find lodging as well.

Stay tuned for updates from Calgary...
